Code of Conduct in Workplacements

  • The Open College wish to acknowledge the support received from facilities in accommodating our learners with work experience as part of their Healthcare programme. Adherence to the Code of Conduct is expected while on work experience / practice placements.

 

  • The Open College learners must adhere to the Code of Conduct, policies and procedures of the workplace organisation, community or agency. During their workplace induction students should make themselves aware of company policies in relation to attendance, sick leave, punctuality etc. while on placement.

 

  • Confidentiality must be maintained at all times in relation to residents, patients, records and all associated professionals and their practice.

 

  • The Code of Conduct is in place to provide guidelines of values for the learners of The Open College regarding professional behaviour and responsibilities.

 

  • These values will guide interactions with residents / clients / patients, colleagues, professionals and the public. They include respect, caring, fairness, trustworthiness, partnership and teamwork all of which are fundamental to vocational practice.

 

  • Respect for all individuals regardless of their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, political beliefs and social class is essential which is the fundamental ethos of our equality policy. Failure to do so can result in disciplinary procedures.

 

  • All learners are required to comply with the expectations outlined here as well as adhering to the relevant work placement practice, policies, procedures, rules and regulations i.e. uniform policy, health and safety, security, incident reporting, infection control regulations of the healthcare / other facility.

 

  • If you need to report a work placement incident, please contact your course tutor who can guide you on the next steps for reporting incidents correctly, ensuring to follow the correct reports procedure.
